We use this for most early-morning Leicester airport transfers. After 8am, the M6/M42 interchange at Junction 4 starts to build. By 8:30am, queues add 10-15 minutes. We don’t recommend this route for departures between 8am and 9:30am without buffer time.
A46 via Coventry to M42. Peak Hour Alternative
For passengers in south Leicester or when the M69/M6 junction is congested, the A46 connects through Coventry toward the M42 from the south. Slightly longer in distance but avoids the M6 interchange entirely. We switch to this route during term-time mornings when the M69 corridor backs up. Adds 5 minutes to the journey but removes 15 minutes of unpredictable queuing.
BHX or East Midlands Airport. Which One for Your Flight
Most Leicester passengers default to East Midlands Airport because it’s closer. That works for short-haul European flights. But EMA doesn’t serve long-haul destinations. If you’re flying to Dubai, Toronto, Islamabad, Delhi, or anywhere beyond Europe, BHX is your airport. The 40-minute M69 transfer is worth it for a direct flight instead of connecting through Heathrow.

Oadby & Wigston

Narborough & Enderby
Southwest of Leicester, close to the M69 junction. One of the fastest BHX connections in the Leicester area. Narborough to BHX takes 35-40 minutes using the M69 directly. Enderby sits on the B4114 with quick access to Junction 21 of the M1 for East Midlands Airport or the M69 for BHX. We use Narborough’s position to skip Leicester city centre entirely on morning runs.
Groby & Ratby
Northwest Leicester. Further from the M69, so BHX journeys route through the M1 southbound to connect at Junction 21. Airport transfers from Groby take 45-50 minutes. For East Midlands Airport, Groby is closer — 20 minutes via the A50/M1. We recommend EMA for a short haul from this area unless BHX has the direct route you need.
Loughborough Direction
North of Leicester on the M1 corridor. Loughborough sits closer to East Midlands Airport (15 minutes) than to BHX (55 minutes). For long-haul flights from BHX, we factor in the additional distance and recommend earlier departures. The M1 to M69 connection runs cleanly before 7am. After that, Junction 21 builds and adds variable time.
